EDI & Modern Slavery
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy plus a Modern Slavery statement backed by a real supply-chain audit.

Social value is now weighted heavily on manufacturing tenders, and HR evidence is where most of those marks live or die.
Without current HR and employment documentation, a buyer assumes weak or absent EDI commitment, unaudited, higher-risk supply chain on modern slavery, IR35 and worker classification exposure, generic, unsubstantiated wellbeing claims and social value answers that won't survive scrutiny.
None of that may be true of you. It does not matter. In a tender, the assumption is what gets scored.
Most manufacturers have decent practice and no documentation. To an evaluator, undocumented good practice scores identically to having no practice at all.
This is not HR administration. It is operational risk control, and buyers score it that way.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy plus a Modern Slavery statement backed by a real supply-chain audit.
Employment contract review and IR35 worker classification that holds up to scrutiny.
Real Living Wage accreditation and wellbeing programmes with substance behind them, not slogans.
TUPE readiness, right-to-work checks, grievance procedures and whistleblowing policy.
| Tender criterion | What this service contributes | Score effect |
|---|---|---|
| ESG | EDI, wellbeing and pay policy score directly as social value | Major |
| Compliance | Modern Slavery statement is often a stated requirement | Major |
| Risk | Employment law exposure reads as operational risk | Moderate |
| Quality | Workforce governance supports process maturity claims | Moderate |
| Experience | Retention and wellbeing evidence strengthens capability | Moderate |
It is a legal requirement if your annual turnover is £36 million or more, under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Many buyers ask smaller suppliers for one anyway, or for a description of how they check their supply chain. Publish it on your website, have a director approve it, and update it every year.
They are where much of the social value score is evidenced. Central government gives social value at least a 10% weighting under PPN 002, and evaluators look for specifics: Real Living Wage, apprenticeships, an equality action plan with targets, and wellbeing support you can describe in detail. Good practice that is not written down scores the same as no practice at all.
An equality, diversity and inclusion policy, a Modern Slavery statement, whistleblowing, grievance and disciplinary procedures, compliant employment contracts and consistent right-to-work records. If the contract could involve staff transferring, add a TUPE plan. Review the set once a year.
